A warm hello to the Wiens family launched our wine intoxicating blend of class Wiens Winery wine blending seminar per year. After a warm welcome, the crowd of more than 30 participants has been introduced into the barrel room air. This pleasantly decorated room had 10 tables covered with table linens. Each table had a setting for four, four bottles of wine mysterious labeled A to D, a cylinder (like those you find in a chemistry class), and several other tools for mixing wine. To set the right mood, all present were poured a glass of wine and delicious Wiens provided doeuvre tasty hor.
The course was led by Doug Wiens mouth, a winemaker, grower, and one of the many Wiens family members who attended. During his 30 minutes was intended to prepare for a competition, pitting cons table table, as we have designed our own blended wine that should be considered by the Wiens family later in the evening. During the course, we discovered that the mixture of wine is practiced by many vineyards. It is used: 1) increasing the quality of wine in terms of color, flavor, mouthfeel and finish, 2) to expand the size of a lot of harvesting to increase the bottling economies of 'scale, and 3) for marketing purposes. Doug has also revealed that, as mixtures of wine and taste the results, mathematical skills (critical for the mixing process) degenerate as his philosophical skills to become better. Surprisingly, we could share this special experience as the night developed.
Once Dougs course has been done, the teams set to work. You could feel the tension as each team struggled to perfect their mixtures. Some groups have had more fun than others for their wine emptied quickly. It reminded me of my son and his first experience mixing various household items to see what would develop, even if my son had a great time, it does not consume his creations (thank you God.). Some of our mixtures were not able to be enjoyed, either, but in the end, all 10 groups have made their best blends with pride, wondering what size the accumulated charges for their award winning creations.

Fifteen minutes later, when the judges returned to their task, we learned the identity of the four wines we had mixed: two were high quality Wiens Temecula wine and two others required more time to mature. Being able to guess the weak against the powerful wine novices really left the connoisseurs of wine tasting palate. The experts welcomed their winning mixes, while the rest of us have had our egos bruised at home with a better understanding of what is considered a good wine. Surprisingly, several groups of winners were able to involve significant percentages of their wines in small blendsa
